20250413 - Ghana Week 57: Marty Taught - Some in Twi; Police Briefing;
Stockpiled Water; Pre-Cleaned; Deep Cleaning; Battery Miracle; Generator
Working; Seafood Feast; Timely Extension Cords
= Sunday, I helped our Come, Follow Me class consider lessons from revelations given in 1830 to people who were being called to spread the gospel. As they were faithful, they received promised blessings. For each of the main points in the lesson outline, I picked one or two verses of scripture and presented them in English and in Twi. Two people told me I was doing fine, reading the Twi passages out loud.
= Monday, President Morgan met early with Sister Ladner instead of late in the day. At 5, we watched a police presentation about traffic in Ghana. Some people drive too fast, and some are too trusting. We saw videos of pedestrians and motorcycles being swatted like flies. [ouch] Everything in your environment can be a hazard; one video showed a pedestrian flattening a bicyclist with a single blow.
= We had been told that a deep-cleaning crew was coming tomorrow; and, we're still nervous about the water shortage. Home, I filled enough jugs for two weeks of water to wash ourselves and our clothes. I did laundry with the top loader, stockpiled the drained water (separately) to use for flushing toilets, and moved that washer to the hallway so the shower it sat in could be cleaned. And, I organized the drying room until 0130.
= Tuesday, workers deep-cleaned our house from 1000 to 4 PM. They did a good job. I created a pasta meal that Steph would welcome again.
= Wednesday when I drove to the Battery Doctor, he wasn't there, but a woman walking by asked what I needed. When I explained, she led me to his house (!), I talked with his wife (the Relief Society President of the Bakaano ward), and her husband opened the shop to give me my charged battery. If I had arrived 30 seconds earlier or later, I would not have met this neighbor who was willing to help and knew where the man lived who ran the shop. I’m blessed so much that it’s almost embarrassing to talk about.
= With my prodding, technicians working on our compound's generator figured out why we weren't getting power. And the generator starts (now that its battery isn't dead). We listened to Sunday on Monday; one guest shared that in deep despair, her prayers changed from “I thank you… I ask you...” to needing and having someone to talk to. One verse of one scripture: Whatsoever ye ask the Father in my name it shall be given unto you, that is expedient for you. I’m reminded of a country lyric: Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers.
= Thursday, I worked briefly at the office, then learned that workers were on their way to service our air conditioners, and I had locked our compound gate from the outside; so, Steph couldn’t unlock it. I stayed home for the rest of the day.
= Friday, my laptop balked when I turned it on; it said it couldn't find the default operating system. I can coax it past that point, but it's unsettling. In the office, I posted amounts from all the invoices on hand related to the push; I was seeking a total for President Morgan.
= After 3, Steph and I checked several shops for peanut butter, bought some extension cords, then ate a chef's special meal [pricey] at Lemon Lounge. Home, we watched Star Trek - Next Generation until midnight. We relaxed.
= Saturday, photos of an apartment issue reached my laptop five minutes before our power dropped. I hot-spotted from my phone and forwarded them to Brother Bright (Facility Manager). When I went outside to start our generator, I realized that what had actually happened to our power is that we were receiving only one of three phases; our refrigerator was fine. So, I only ran it long enough for Steph to get dressed in comfort.
= We spent some time downtown. We bought bread, looked for medication, and helped a missionary obtain medical tests.
= Home, we migrated to the living room (whose air conditioner still had power) and ran extension cords, some of which we had bought yesterday, for a fan, laptops, and phone chargers. The power was back to normal by 5:45. Forgetting that church service on Easter is only an hour, I prepared an Easter lesson to use after Sacrament in case I was asked for one. [grin]

How far would you wheel a barrow full of dirt? What would require just one load?
Something tall? No problem; you just hold onto it while I drive.

There's a hand-pump well behind this bush.
We need to visit there someday; it's real.
Someone has leaned the old church sign against the rented home we meet in each Sunday.

Eggs. Given the road conditions, I consider it a marvel that the eggs reach their destination unharmed.
The gathering we saw preparations for earlier has full attendance now..

Welcome to White Horse Estates

It's the sort of sales pitch you'd see in the States.

There doesn't seem to be much limit to what an aboboyaa can carry.
How far will you carry a ladder?
35:1 Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me...
27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
91:2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

Work with the traffic to cross; you can't just wait for it at the side of the road at this pinchpoint.
Nhyira Nka BoafoÉ” {Blessed Be The Helper}
(The 100 kph sign is a taunt that you can pass this vehicle, but you'll need to be driving faster than that to do it.)
Turning onto the road to our compound, everyone rides, no wasted space.

The AKWATS signage for a store featuring a handful of American products is suspiciously similar to signage for an American military base exchange/ post exchange.
In case you missed the sign for shotguns, the giant shotgun shells might get your attention.

Ninety Nine
Matthew 18:12-14
How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?
And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray.
Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.
