Week of 20250223 - Ghana Week 50: Plan of Salvation; Septic Tank Dunk!; Fosu; Fosu South; Jukwa

= Sunday, speakers related to our lives the Good Samaritan parable and Moses receiving help from subordinates to hold up his rod. In class, Steph reviewed God's plan for us to learn from our mistakes; repent and be strengthened by the Savior's atonement for us; die and continue to learn and perhaps teach others; and eventually be resurrected to have perfected bodies and live in a kingdom with others who have become the kind of people we have become, our goal being to live with our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ again. I spoke on keeping the Sabbath. Steph spoke again on the Word of Wisdom.

= Monday, the weekly meeting had pushed to Tuesday. So, we worked from home.

= Tuesday, the meeting was later in the day than usual. It was just past 6 when we got home. Recent wind had broken a banana tree and the bananas burst as if squeezed. I stepped up on the septic tank to get a better look and perhaps a better photo.

= Without warning, the cover fell to pieces. Then I was in the pit. The water was over my head, but I swam to the surface. I smiled because I was safe. I called for Steph, who put a ladder into the pit for me to stand on. I was still too low to climb out, but the Elders from next door lifted me out. I could have died or been severely injured, but I was fine. My glasses stayed on my face and my camera remained clutched in my hand.

= My sense of smell disappeared for a day. The polytank water lasted just long enough for me to shampoo three times and shower thoroughly before it finally cut off (after weeks of using water frugally). Jug pumps for washing dishes and personal cleaning using jugs of water arrived today! My driving permit was still legible and my Medicare card wasn't affected. Some of the spare camera batteries survived. We gave new meaning to the term "money laundering".

= You can hurt yourself doing anything at all. Be careful, and don’t worry. Bad things will still happen, but if you ask, God will help you to cope with life.

= Wednesday, my sense of smell returned when the mat outside the front door was picked up to clean it; it had water trapped from when I had stood before entering the house the night before. We dropped off items in Fosu. In Fosu South, we delivered a floor fan and another item and picked up a non-working fan for possible repair.

= Thursday, we worked from home; I had neglected to line up an appointment for an apartment visit.

= Friday, we inspected an apartment in Jukwa, then came home early in case a crew came to cap the septic tank. The crew didn't show.

= Saturday, we worked and prepped for Sunday.

To church

Notice where he's standing. Also notice the objects to his left. Every road needs drainage ditches; you just need ingenuity to cope with them.

Going around the "stove". Steph is wearing sneakers that match her dress fabric; so, she's being extra-careful.

Different destinations

Making a point

We die and continue to learn. After we are resurrected, there are multiple kingdoms of glory that differ based on how we've been willing to live.
- In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. [John 14:2]
- There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory. [1 Corinthians 15:41]

Normally the class is much larger; I didn't see how this went today.

I'm surprised that this tree is still standing.

Colorful

But small, perhaps the length of my shoe from nose to tail. He's outdoors.

One of our banana plants, too tall to cut the fruit from, broke and the bananas spat out.

..

I stepped onto the septic tank to get a closer look; I was standing on a square cement cap like the one on the background.

After a moment, without warning, I was inside the tank; the lid had disintegrated. The water was over my head, but I swam to the surface, still holding my camera, grabbed the hole to the next compartment so as not to have to tread water, and and called for Steph. At first, she couldn't find me. Then Steph brought a folding ladder that I stood on as if on the top of a stepladder, but I was still up to my waist in water and too low from the edge to raise myself. *I'm on the ladder in this photo.* She went next door for help. (Yes, I asked her to take photos; I don't plan to repeat this experience.)

Elders Vasco and Whitlock live in an apartment in the same compound. Elder Vasco cleared junk out of the way so they could work, and then Elder Whitlock and Elder Vasco pulled me out so my knees rested on solid cement.

I'm out, unharmed (except for a few scrapes). Elder Vasco is in the background.

And that's Elder Whitlock.

Money laundering; document drying

The item on the jug is a jug pump; it's easier than washing items one-handed while you pour from a pitcher with your other hand.

The written language is not specific by itself and tries to accommodate Asante Twi (widely spoken), Akuapem (similar to Asante, a target for translating scriptures) and Fante (less-widely spoken): one reason perhaps why Ghana has chosen English as its official language.

Good advice indeed.

We're parked on the driveway to the Fosu South Stake Center [a large chapel]. The gap between the fence and the next building over gets a fair amount of traffic and is the route we have followed on foot to reach a missionary apartment.

I don't photograph artwork in shops, but at this low resolution you can get a very tiny hint of what is available in tourist traps (and sometimes places that offer help in getting a passport, etc.): realistic art, exaggerated art, and modern art. I'm surprised to see it here.
