Week of 20241013 - Ghana Week 31: Church missed; Finance; Dinner at Barilleaus; Morgans' extended family; KO-SA resort

= Sunday, we missed church. Steph was dizzy at 0730, and I cramped and was queasy. It rained on and off. I napped multiple times in between documenting our apartment visits, preparing for the weekly meeting, and working to improve the Twi primer.

= Monday, we got to meet visiting members of Sister Morgan’s family. After the Monday meeting, I drove Elder Barilleau to the local water office, and he picked up receipts (stapled to the bills we had dropped off last week). At the mission office, I made some check payments. Home, Steph fried hotdogs and fries. I did the euphemistically titled Seven-minute Workout - learning the moves took much longer - while Steph used her stretching band.

= Tuesday, Elder Barilleau and I delivered a check to the bank to deposit in the account of the fuel vendor we use. I paid vendors through Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). I documented more financial procedures. Paper notes I had been making hadn't helped much; because, they were disorganized and hard to read. Transcribing to an organized soft copy made them useful and easier to add to.
= Steph created a meal of seared eggplant, mushroom, spices, and ground beef. We did Zumba Toning.

= Wednesday, I did “pull prep”. (Young missionaries and their families pay the average cost of a mission; I put on their cards what they need for subsistence in this mission and they pull from the cards every two weeks.) I filled imprest.
= The Barilleaus hosted us for dinner: bean stew and talk. Home, we did belly dance and Zumba Toning as a warmup, then we worked arms, back, and chest. Steph's expertise was very helpful in getting me positioned correctly for some of the exercises

= Thursday, I organized more of my finance documentation. Workers pumping the Barilleaus' septic used a sledgehammer to break the lids open. We ate spaghetti topped with egg and vegetables, fixed by Elder Bahi (one of the Office Elders); very nice. Home, Steph breaded and fried fresh mushrooms: a nice snack. Exercise: mats and chairs.

= Friday, I worked from home on more of the finance documentation; we showed up after lunch and left before four to pay the eye doctor bill for a missionary. We were there after closing, but he let us make the payment, called the Sister involved to get her to pick a set of frames, and then when she and her companion showed up, stepped out of the variety store next door to go back to his office to complete that process!
= We tried Porky Darlin' for date night: colossal fail. Pizza City shawarma for home; just OK this time. Found and watched The Colour of Loyalty (manipulation in a gangster hierarchy) that we had seen part of at Porky Darlin'. The Bone Collector. Did a full-body workout. Star Trek into Darkness; Star Trek beyond. We relaxed.

= Saturday, the Barilleaus picked us up to spend some time at KO-SA, a beach resort. Picture a wooden-slat lounge chair under a palm tree not far from the water. Swimming (briefly) in the Atlantic Ocean. Great conversation and food with Sister Morgan's sister, her husband, his mother, the Morgans, and the Barilleaus. Home, naps, then bed; then I was back up, working on the Twi primer.

Our uphill neighbor drove his truck down before we made it out. His wife's little car can't handle the ditch at the bottom yet.

Cases of the Book of Mormon. (We have since run through all of these; more are on back-order.)

The driver side low-beam headlamp worked sometimes, and sometimes not (as here; the ring around it doesn't count).

Elder Bahi made spaghetti topped with vegetables and egg...

Clearly a hit.

Porky Darl'n Bar-B-Que; terrible food, but we did continue at home to watch a movie that we started at that location.

Waiting at Pizza City. The facility across the street is a wholesale pharmacy, supplying other pharmacies.

Exercise mats in the living room this day; we have larger ones in the bedroom.

I'm on the lookout for bicycle sellers; the mission will need some more eventually.

We'll try this one someday, after our friends sell KO-SA.

Every group needs a photographer. The man in white and his wife own this place, but after decades, it's now for sale. Anyone want to buy a resort?

We leave a little lighter on our feet after these visits...
