Week of 20250504 - Ghana Week 60: Cape Coast Stake Conference; Spaced Repetition System (SRS); Water; Bicycle and Helmet Tracking; Seeking Funds for Ditch Repair; Takoradi Trip; New Air Conditioner

= Sunday, as we had decided yesterday, we went to the Cape Coast Stake Conference instead of attending the branch in Mfuom today. It was like our Stake Conference in Montgomery, Alabama, enough to fill the Davis Theater. Last year, this Stake had 143 baptisms. The general flow of the meeting was as it would be at home. Men were proposed to receive the Melchizedek Priesthood. We sustained leaders remote and local. We heard from returned missionaries. We heard from prepared speakers, including the Morgans. The choir did a nice job, usually in English, sometimes in Twi; they had three mikes: back, middle, front. The blend worked.
= A few thoughts: When we find God, we find rest unto our souls. We come to Christ when we bear one another's burdens. There is power in unity. Do not contend. Forgiveness is an act of discipleship. Embrace the power of covenants. We renew our covenants when we take the Sacrament.
= Home, we sang hymns together that we didn't know very well; it was fun. We watched Don't Miss This. I worked on a spiritual thought for tomorrow. I picked a spaced repetition system (SRS) to help me with Twi: Flashcard Lab.

= Monday, water had flowed; the ground tank was full; I replaced the water filters. I saw a toucan or hornbill. At the office in our weekly meeting, it was my turn for the spiritual thought. I shared that we have nothing to fear except failure to repent, which separates us from God. Some bicycle helmets arrived, and in preparing to make missionaries responsible for them, I wound up preparing to track bicycles by individual, not just by teaching area. President Morgan gave Steph and me member and calling rosters for the Mfuom branch and asked us to encourage Branch President Davies to consider who is attending and how God might help them serve.
= Home, Bismark Gas stopped us near the Audit building to tell us that work had begun on fixing the ditch below our compound and how much he expected it to cost; I took his phone number. We parked by the small store before our compound. We listened to Sunday on Monday.

= Tuesday, the power phase for the master bedroom, bathroom, and living room outlets was off. I ran the generator to make getting dressed easier, then cut it off. I ran extension cords from working outlets.
= Bismark came to our door to ask us to contribute to the ditch repair. I didn't volunteer, not wanting to set a precedent for those who will follow us. He dialed a number and a half-dozen people joined him, not pushy, just spectators. I told him I would speak with the people who let me use the building and get back with him.

= Wednesday, we picked up riders at the office and drove to Takoradi for Ghana non-citizen card renewal. Office Elders drove a van-full. Renewal went smoothly and we were done by 12:30. We all went to Takoradi Mall and asked everyone to meet back at the vehicles by 2:45. By the time Steph and I had eaten and I found a working restroom, we had only ten minutes to shop in the grocery store there (Shoprite). Both vehicles left at 3, and we were all back in Cape Coast by 5:15. Home, I worked on incident reports and gathered bicycle status.

= Thursday, Kojo Dadson picked up our truck to fix some issues. Workers replaced our living room air conditioner, which was old and had not responded to repair attempts. The new one worked very well.

= Friday, rain before noon; as usual, hard but short. I ran the generator, a weekly test now. Kojo returned the truck. I picked up shawarma and pizza from Pizza City for date night. After hunting for alternatives, we continued watching Star Trek - Next Generation until midnight. We relaxed.

= Saturday, I received a phone call at 0830 regarding bicycles and helmets. I worked mission issues and did home chores. At 4:15, I refueled the truck. I researched the price of shipping a box from Ghana (as much as a one-way plane ticket), concluded our best alternative was to pay the airline the excess baggage fee on our way home, and offered to buy Steph a new suitcase for Mothers Day.

Jesus I know.

[Speaking for God without authority...] Acts 19:13-19
Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
